a proposal about growing together

Gemeinsam wachsen

Six things I would like to build with ITIS, written ahead of our meeting in Altheim on Monday, 28 September. Read it whenever suits you. I hope we can agree on a few of them together.

01 · A personal note

Why I am writing this myself

Dear Alfred, dear Christopher, dear Anke,

In 2022 Devendra Kavthekar introduced me to Joe, and that one call is the reason I can write this at all. I was a single developer. No company behind me, nothing to show you. Joe gave me the work anyway.

David set me up on the systems and my first task was the product master for Endor AG. In the four years since I have worked with Alfred, Christopher, Anke, Stephan, Jochen, Eduard, Steve, Mohammad, Nabil and many others across your development and consulting teams. Every one of them taught me something about how ITIS builds software, and I have tried to build my own company the same way.

I am writing this myself rather than as a company document, because the proposal is mine. It is about more than renewing a contract. It is a proposal that the next chapter be about what we build together, rather than about how many developers appear on a timesheet.

P.S. I hope we can agree on a few of these on Monday. And if you have ideas of your own that are not in here, I would like to hear them just as much as I would like to share mine.

02 · Since 2022

How the bridge got built

Four spans, one at a time. Tap one, or play the four years.

the drawings scroll sideways on a phone

not everything worked. a data collection engagement was stopped once German law made it untenable.

03 · What I see in ITIS

Seven products. I have worked on one.

1999founded by Anke Lorenz and Joerg Lorenz
450+customer projects delivered
120+customers
1.000+servers in your own German data centres

Two things strike me from the outside. ITIS owns its own infrastructure at a time when almost every software company rents, and has built a clear position around software and hosting from Germany, for Germany and Europe. That position is becoming more valuable, not less. And ITIS has already named its next direction publicly: artificial intelligence meeting the expertise the company already holds.

the suite, and my one corner of it

six of the seven, nobody from my side has ever opened.

04 · Why I am writing this

The contract describes days. The work is not days.

On paper

Interchangeable developer days

  • People described by the day, at a level of experience, in quantities
  • Anyone with the same years could be substituted for anyone else
  • Success measured by hours reported rather than by anything delivered
a supply agreement
In practice

Four years of accumulated context

  • Your codebase, your conventions, your review standards
  • Your ticket system, your release rhythm, your escalation paths
  • Your customers, and what they will and will not accept
a working partnership
let the next period be measured by what ITIS can do afterwards that it could not do before.

05 · Six areas

Three that strengthen what exists, three that extend it

Each area says what it is, what ITIS gains, and when it could begin. Use the pin at the top of any area to mark it for Monday. It then appears in your agenda in section 09.

Part I

Strengthening what exists

delivery, product, support
1

Reliability

Delivery ITIS does not have to check twice

Your consultant explains a requirement to a developer, follows it, then verifies it, and often explains the same thing more than once. That is consultant time spent on coordination instead of customers, and it is the part of our present arrangement I am least satisfied with myself.

  • A consultant as the single point of contact. He takes the requirement once, breaks it down, assigns it, holds the schedule and reviews every delivery before it reaches you.
  • A dedicated QA engineer testing independently after that review, so nothing arrives unchecked, migrations included.
  • An automated regression suite for ITISeasy.business, so releases are safe by construction rather than because somebody remembered to look.
  • A weekly meeting where your team still speaks to the developers directly. The consultant should never become a wall between you and the people doing the work.
  • A trained bench, so capacity is never the reason a date moves.
the consultant is a billed resource. the QA engineer is not, and section 08 explains why.

Product depth

Four additions to ITISeasy.business

The fastest revenue in a product business is rarely a new customer. It is an existing customer finding a second reason to stay. These four can be built without taking your developers off the roadmap.

the forecasting piece is my own doctoral research, not a capability I am claiming for the first time here.

Customer support, and a server opportunity in India

Two separate things, and nothing about how ITIS runs its own hosting

ITIS has run its own data centres for more than two decades and knows that business far better than I do. There are only two things here: extra hands for your customers, and an opportunity in India that I think is worth looking at while it is open.

drag the hand and see who is at a desk

  • A support engineer for your customers. English-speaking from day one and trained in German in parallel, so that over time he can take calls and tickets in your customers' own language. A billed resource like any other.
  • My desks are open 09:00 to 21:00 Indian time, which is 05:30 to 17:30 in Germany during summer time, and 04:30 to 16:30 in winter. Overnight tickets are worked before your day starts, with a long overlap with your own working day.
  • A new data centre in India, as an expansion rather than a move. Nothing leaves Germany. Additional capacity in a second region, for customers worldwide who cannot or will not be served from Europe.
  • Why now. Build and running costs sit well below German levels, the government is actively supporting data centre investment including by foreign companies, and AI demand has the server market growing faster than anyone can build for.
  • What I would actually do. The groundwork on the Indian side: sites, power, costs, incentives, regulation and local partners, written up properly. The decision is entirely yours.
this one is a question, not a pitch. tell me if it is not interesting.

Part II

Growing together

marketing, new markets, more from every customer
4

Marketing and visibility

LinkedIn for the three of you, and social media for ITIS

ITIS has more than two decades of substance and, honestly said, less visibility than it deserves. In the German mid-market trust attaches to people before companies, and buyers now build their shortlist on LinkedIn and in search before anyone calls. Switch voices on below and see what changes.

  • Personal LinkedIn for Alfred, Christopher and Anke. Profile, positioning and a steady rhythm, ghost-written and never posted without your approval. A public profile is a personal choice, so this is offered, not assumed.
  • The ITIS company channels. LinkedIn, XING, YouTube for product walkthroughs, and a content calendar rather than occasional bursts.
  • The topics are already yours. E-invoicing, data sovereignty, software from Germany, open source in the Mittelstand, AI in ERP.
  • Search and AI visibility. One authoritative web address, and content that AI assistants quote when a buyer asks them for a shortlist.
  • Appearing together. Case studies and events. We were both in Brussels last year, separately.

Markets beyond Europe

The Gulf first, then the United States

ITISeasy is mature and sold in essentially one region. The barrier elsewhere is rarely the product. It is localisation and the absence of anyone on the ground. Both are solvable, and ITIS has run a partner programme past eighty partners before.

  • Localisation built once, sold many times. ITIS already markets e-invoicing for Germany, and the Gulf and India have their own regimes. The next country for something you have already built.
  • Research and specification first, before ITIS commits any development budget.
  • Partners rather than headcount. Enablement material that lets others implement: method, documentation, demo environments, training, certification. ITIS earns product and licence revenue without carrying delivery cost.
  • What could go wrong. New markets absorb attention long before they return anything. I would rather ITIS entered one region properly than three loosely.

More from every existing customer

Add services and watch what one customer becomes

ITIS sells software and hosting. Its customers are also buying analytics, AI and digital marketing, and buying it from someone else. ITIS holds what no new entrant holds: twenty-five years of trust with exactly those companies.

  • AI opens doors the ERP cannot. A company on SAP or Dynamics will still buy forecasting and document automation. A way into non-customers, and a natural conversation about ITISeasy later.
  • Under the ITIS name, to ITIS customers. I sit behind it and deliver. The customer relationship is yours.
Delivered under the ITIS name3 to 12 months

06 · The sequence

Three horizons, and what could begin at once

Now

first 90 days
  • Consultant as single point of contact
  • Dedicated QA engineer
  • Support engineer for your customers
  • LinkedIn and social media rhythm
  • Weekly and quarterly rhythm

Building

3 to 12 months
  • Automated regression suite
  • German training for support
  • Analytics and first AI in the product
  • Mobile applications
  • Gulf localisation
  • Services for the installed base
  • India data centre study

Extending

12 months and beyond
  • ITISeasy Academy
  • Partner enablement
  • United States entry
  • India data centre, if the study supports it
  • Joint market presence at scale
nothing in the second or third horizon needs agreeing now. i would rather earn each one.

07 · How we would run it

The part that decides whether any of it happens

A named counterpart at ITIS for each area, a named owner on my side, and one roadmap visible to both companies rather than two internal plans.

08 · The exchange

What I ask, and what I contribute

What I would ask of ITIS

four things, none of them financial

Sight of the roadmapSo what I build fits what you are already planning.
A named counterpart per areaSo decisions have somewhere to go.
Permission to publishFor the marketing work, with your sign-off before anything appears.
Ninety days of attentionThe only period I am asking for it.

What I contribute

not billed, and not conditional on anything here

the two orange ones are not a discount. no strings, and no invoice.

Four years is long enough that I stopped thinking of this as somebody else's product. It is still yours. I would just like to look after it properly.

09 · Your agenda for Monday

What would you like to settle on Monday?

Pin the areas you would like to settle, add questions or ideas of your own, and send me the list if you wish. That way Monday can focus on what matters to you.

10 · An invitation to India

Come and see it for yourselves

After you host us in Altheim, I would be glad to host you in Gandhinagar. Meet the people who have been working on your product, and see whether the team matches the impression you have formed from a distance.

India has a very large number of mid-sized companies that need exactly what ITISeasy does, and it is where the server opportunity in area 3 would sit. Both are easier to judge in person than on a page.

and the food is worth the flight on its own.

Thank you for reading this far, and for the four years that made it possible to write. I know what it meant to give work to one developer with nothing to show for himself, and I have tried to be worth it since.

I hope we can agree on a few of these points together on Monday, and I look forward to hearing your own ideas alongside mine.

Wir freuen uns darauf, gemeinsam weiterzugehen.
